As we celebrate our 40th anniversary here at Weissach, we want to thank our customers for the support you have kindly given us over the years and invite you to join us as we partner with this year’s charity, Langara College, in our 40 for 40 goal to raise $40,000 for students who have been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As many of you know, Weissach Group has been committed to giving back to the local community since we first opened our doors back in 1980. Our mission with 40 For 40 is that every dollar raised by you will be matched by us at Weissach, with the ultimate goal to raise $40,000 to help students not only survive, but thrive.

This year, as we celebrate the Big 4-0, we have decided to partner with Langara College to help raise funds for students who need urgent assistance.

Many students across Canada and right here in British Columbia have felt the impacts of the pandemic. Loss of income has had a major knock-on effect, with many students unable to support themselves and their families. Even with low tuition fees, students at Langara College are struggling to pay for the basics like textbooks, food and shelter. This is why Weissach has committed to raise $40,000 to help take meaningful action for students in need.

“Passion and compassion is at the heart of what we do, and we feel proud that our customers feel the same way we do. This year we feel honoured to be able to support Langara College to help alleviate some of the burden felt by its students. No one should go hungry, and everyone has the right to access education. This year we are asking our fellow sports car enthusiasts to join us in our goal to raise $40,000 for at-risk students as we reach a milestone of 40 years in business,” says Asgar Virji, president of Weissach Group.

Money raised will support specific areas: The Laptop Lending Library – giving students access to technology, so they can continue their studies remotely; The Hamper Program – aimed at providing students with a back to school kit to support families, single parents, or those on a low income; The Community Cupboard – the parent program to The Hamper Program, which is an on-campus food bank that provides students with nutrient-rich ingredients to make healthy meals; and Emergency Bursaries for students who need it most.

“The pandemic has hit our students hard. As an example, food security has become an issue. Prior to the pandemic, we were distributing an average of 10 bags of food a week to students. However, since March we have distributed a total of 1,224 bags of food, which represents the equivalent of 21 meals,” explains Yusuf Varachia, director of fundraising.

We are asking you, our valued customers, to join us in helping to raise money. Donations can be made online (CLICK HERE) and donors will receive a tax receipt by the Langara College Foundation. Alternatively, you can donate specifically to one of the areas you feel most passionate about.

“We cannot express enough how thankful we are to our customers who have supported us in our journey from the very beginning, and the charities we have supported, and we hope to once again work together to now support students who are facing challenging times,” says Virji.
